Who is Yogi Adityanath?
Yogi Adityanath is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s member and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He serves as the Gorakhnath Math’s Mahant (Chief Priest), which is a Hindu temple in Gorakhpur. He is the founder of the Hindu Yuva Vahini, a group for young people that has drawn criticism for its role in acts of intergroup violence. Yogi Adityanath is known for being a populist right-wing Hindutva.
Yogi Adityanath was born in Panchur, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand on June 5, 1972. He will be 51 years old in 2023. He is from Rajput community. Yogi Adityanath is a member of a particular school of Uttar Pradesh Hindutva politics. After his first electoral victory, Adityanath founded Hindu Yuva Vahini, a youth organisation that became well-known for its work in eastern Uttar Pradesh and played a crucial role in his rapid ascent.He made the connections between Indian Leftist parties and Nepali Maoists a central campaign issue in 2006 and urged Madhesi leaders to oppose Maoism in Nepal. Adityanath was the youngest member of the 12th Lok Sabha when he was chosen at the age of 26. He was chosen to represent Gorakhpur in the Parliament for five consecutive terms (in the elections of 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014).
Around the 1990s, he relocated to join the movement for the Ayodhya Ram temple. At about the same time, Mahant Avaidyanath, the leader of the Gorakhnath Math, accepted him as a disciple. The movement for the Ayodhya Ram temple was being led at the time by Mahant Avaidyanath. Adityanath visited his ancestral village frequently while based in Gorakhpur after his initiation and opened a school there in 1998.

He has received visits from the RSS chief Rajendra Singh, the VHP leader Ashok Singhal, and the deputy prime minister L. K. Advani in Gorakhpur. On March 18, 2017, the state government appointed him as chief minister; the BJP won the assembly elections the following day, and he was sworn in the following day. When the results of the legislative assembly elections were announced on March 10, 2022, the BJP-led NDA alliance won 273 seats, giving Adityanath a second term. Being the first chief minister to take office again after serving a full 5-year term, he and his party made history. After 37 years, the BJP is the first party to win two straight elections. After Mayawati of the BSP and Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, he was only the third chief minister in the history of Uttar Pradesh’s politics to serve the entirety of a full five-year term. In 2022 BJP won a landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh and Yogi sworned as the Chief Minister for the second time.
