Professional Career
After Lock Up split up in 1991, Morello was looking to start a new band. Rage Against the Machine joined the Los Angeles club scene before securing a record deal with Epic Records in 1992. Rage Against the Machine gave their final performance at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles on September 13, 2000. At the Honda Centre in Anaheim in April 2008, Morello shared the stage twice with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. On two songs from Springsteen’s 2012 album Wrecking Ball, Morello makes an appearance.In 2016, Prophets of Rage was founded. Morello is part of the supergroup along with drummer Brad Wilk, bassist Tim Commerford of Rage Against the Machine, and Public Enemy’s Chuck D, DJ Lord, and B-Real.
The Atlas Underground, a new solo album from Morello that features collaborations with Marcus Mumford and Portugal, was announced on July 26. In 1992, Morello worked on the song “Big Willie” with the hip-hop group Run-DMC. In numerous documentaries, including Iron Maiden: Flight 666 and Sounds Like a Revolution, Morello has acted as himself. A lifelong admirer of comic books, Morello, was revealed to be one in 2011. Morello is renowned for his unique guitar playing, which combines heavy metal and punk riffs with elements of hip hop.
Morello shares the same left-leaning political philosophies as other Rage Against the Machine bandmates. In protest of the Commission on Presidential Debates’ decision to exclude third party candidates from the nationally televised debates, Morello gave a performance at the Open the Debates rally in Denver, Colorado, on August 27, 2008. In support of the demonstrations in Madison, Wisconsin, against restrictions on collective bargaining rights, Morello organised and headlined an acoustic concert on February 21, 2011. Morello and a large number of other stars showed their support for Chelsea Manning in a video in June 2013. Morello has occasionally endorsed the militant Peruvian communist group Shining Path, which has drawn controversy.
