Professional Career
In 1975, Kwankwaso started working for the Kano State Water Resources and Engineering Construction Agency. Kwankwaso entered politics in 1992 under the banner of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). As a representative for the Madobi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Kwankwaso was elected. Later, he became a member of the DPN (Democratic Party of Nigeria). Later he joined PDP. From May 29, 1999, to May 29, 2003, he served as the governor of Kano State, and in 2015, he was reelected. He served as the country’s defence minister from 2003 to 2007.
As a political movement opposing the longevity of the two major political parties, the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party, Kwankwaso founded the National Movement on February 22, 2022. Kwankwaso declared his intention to run for Nigerian president in 2014 on behalf of the newly formed opposition APC party. After leaving the PDP in 2022, Kwankwaso joined the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Later that year, in Abuja, he participated in and prevailed in the presidential primary.
