Professional Career
Prior to changing his name to Pushpa Kamal Dahal during the matriculation exam, the leader went by the name Ghanashyam. Prachanda remained in hiding even in 2017 after democracy was restored in 1990. He was the Communist Party of Nepal’s (Maoist) leader at the time that the civil war and ensuing peace were taking place in the nation. It was the first constituent assembly of Nepal.
He proclaimed People’s War in February 1996 and stole the police officers’ weapons from rural Nepal. Following that, the Maoists turned violent, torched police stations, and terrorised the populace. The local underprivileged communities and ethnic minorities subsequently supported the Maoists, which later resulted in the tragic Royal Massacre of 2001, which sparked the Civil War.
Dahal was sworn in as prime minister on August 18, 2008, after being chosen as such by the Constituent Assembly on August 15. Pushpa Kamal Dahal was chosen to serve as Nepal’s prime minister in August 2016. On May 24, 2017, he announced his resignation as prime minister. Sher Bahadur Deuba of the Nepali Congress took over as prime minister in June. On December 25, 2022, Pushpa Kamal Dahal was chosen to serve as prime minister for a third time after the general election in Nepal that year. On January 10, 2023, 268 of the current 270 members voted in favour of him, winning the confidence vote in the House.
