Professional Career
He founded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), serving as its first Executive Chairman. In the EFCC, Ribadu was credited with removing Nigeria from the FATF List of Non-Cooperative Countries and Territories, getting Nigeria accepted into the esteemed Egmont Group. Under his direction, the EFCC constructed the now-famous Crimes Training and Research Institute in West Africa in just three years. In March 2007, Ribadu received a promotion to the position of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
On account of some serious bribery allegations, Ribadu was fired from the Nigerian Police Service Commission (PSC) on December 22, 2008. He returned in 2011 after three years and contested in the general elections.
Ribadu has won numerous awards for his work as a police officer, a prosecutor, and the chairman of the EFCC. In 1997, 1998, and 2000, he was given the Inspector General of Police Award. In 2005, Mr. President gave him a Special Commendation.He received the Membership of the National Institute, MNI, award in 2008. Since 2011 ,Rivadu is engaged into mainstrem politics of Nigeria.
