Nat Myers’ talent for blues, which his father adored, was honed through poetry. He did odd jobs to fund his poetry studies at the New School in New York City. His busking on street corners and tube stations included a few covers and many originals for commuters and visitors. Instead of recording in Auerbach’s studio, where most Easy Eye musicians operate, they set up a temporary studio at his 100-year-old stone mansion on many acres in Nashville. It fit Myers’ folk blues more than a windowless studio, as though they were recording American history in the front room’s atmosphere and Myers’ footstep on the wooden floor. The mood and music were upbeat as Myers and Auerbach recorded 12 songs in three days.
