Soon after Waris Khan passed away, Monu Manesar gained attention once more after two Muslim males, Junaid and Nasir, were discovered dead in the trunk of a burned-out car in Haryana’s Bhiwani district on February 16. The two lived in the village of Gopalgarh in Bharatpur, Rajasthan. A cousin of the two men said that they had been abducted by six people, including Monu Manesar of the Haryana branch of the Bajrang Dal, and then burned alive.
Ismail said in his police report that Junaid and Nasir had travelled to Bharatpur town early on February 15 for some unrelated work. Around nine in the morning, a stranger told him that a group of men had “brutally beaten up” Junaid and Nasir before taking them hostage. In response to this complaint, the Rajasthan Police on February 16 filed a FIR against six members of the Bajrang Dal under Indian Penal Code Sections 143 (illegal assembly), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 367 (kidnapping in order to subject person to grievous hurt, slavery, etc.), and 368 (wrongfully keeping in confinement, kidnapped or abducted person). In Haryana, Monu Manesar is largely regarded as the face of cow protection.
