IPL Career
Matheesha was hired by the Chennai Super Kings in April 2022 to take Adam Milne’s spot in the 2022 Indian Premier League. He debuted versus the Gujarat Titans. He eliminated Shubman Gill with the opening pitch, becoming the ninth player overall and the first Sri Lankan to accomplish the feat in IPL history. He was acquired by the Kandy Falcons in July 2022 for the third Lanka Premier League season.
International Career
He was included in the Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for Sri Lanka’s series against Australia in May 2022. He was later ruled out of the series, though, and did not participate. He was selected for Sri Lanka’s T20I team for the 2022 Asia Cup in August 2022. On August 27, 2022, he played his first T20I match against Afghanistan.
He was included in the squads for the One Day International and Twenty20 International games against New Zealand in March 2023.
