Career
Throughout his youth, KK took part in a number of music competitions and played in rock bands while he was in high school and college. After recording his first jingle, “Usha the number one,” in Delhi, he came to the conclusion that Mumbai was a better place to launch a music career. He briefly worked as a marketing associate in the hotel industry after getting married in 1991, but soon he relocated to Mumbai to pursue a career in music.
He was given the chance to perform for a Santogen Suiting commercial there. Over the course of four years, he sang for over 3,700 commercials in 10+ Indian languages. After that, he provided vocals for songs like Hello Dr. and Strawberry Kannae. He had her first opportunity to perform vocally in “Maachis,” one of the best films ever made and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, in 1996. In this film, KK performed “Chhod Aaye Hum Woh Galliyan.”
He provided the vocals for the songs “Strawberry Kannae” for the Tamil movie Minsara Kanavu and “Strawberry Ankhein” for the Hindi version for Sapnay. With the release of his debut album, Pal, through Sony Music India in 1999 and music by Lesle Lewis, he shot to fame. The album’s songs “Pal” and “Yaaron” became incredibly popular.
With the song “Chhod Aaye Hum Galiyan Chhod Aaye Hum” by Indian composer Vishal Bhardwaj, KK made his Bollywood debut as a playback singer. His list of well-known playback credits includes “Such Keh Raha Hai” from Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein , “Zara Sa” and “Dil Ibaadat” from Jannat (2008), as well as a large number of other well-known songs.
Death
KK gave a concert at a college festival on May 31, 2022, in South Kolkata’s Nazrul Mancha. He went back to his hotel in Esplanade after the concert. On the way back to his hotel, KK lamented of feeling ill before going into cardiac arrest. He passed away due to cardiac arrest. In order to look into KK’s death, the Kolkata Police opened a case of unnatural death on June 1st, 2022. The West Bengal government gun-saluted KK at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata.
