Professional Career
As a practising attorney, Khushwant Singh began his career in 1939 in the Lahore office of Manzur Qadir and Ijaz Husain Batalvi. He started working for the Indian Foreign Service in 1947. He joined All India Radio in 1951. Singh served in the Rajya Sabha between 1980 and 1986. In 1974, the Padma Bhushan was given to him. Khushwant Singh received the Padma Vibhushan from the Indian government in 2007. In 1984, Khushwant Singh, who had previously received the 1974 Padma Bhushan award, returned it in opposition to the Indian army’s Operation Blue Star. At the age of 99, Singh passed away at his Delhi home from natural causes on March 20, 2014.
