Cole began her career as a backing vocalist for MC Hammer. She released The Way It Is, her debut studio album, in 2005 after joining A&M Records. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded the album a platinum certification, and it received two nominations for 2006 Soul Train Music Awards. One of the most popular shows in BET history, Cole starred in the reality television series Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is, which ran from 2006 to 2008.
The number-one R&B hits “Let It Go,” “I Remember,” and “Heaven Sent” all came from Cole’s second studio album, Just Like You, which was released in 2007. Cole received four Grammy nominations for the album. The RIAA granted the album platinum certification, and it peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. Her third album, A Different Me (2008), debuted at the top of the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list and at number two on the Billboard 200. It received generally favourable reviews. The RIAA awarded the album a platinum certification for its commercial success.
The singles “I Ain’t Thru” and “Take Me Away” were featured on Cole’s fourth album, Calling All Hearts (2010). Woman to Woman (2012), her fifth studio album, reached its highest position on the Billboard 200. The song “Enough of No Love” was born from it, and it reached its peak position on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart among the top 10. She appeared in the reality series Keyshia & Daniel: Family First that same year. Point of No Return (2014) was released under Interscope’s label, while 11:11 Reset (2017) was released under Epic’s.
Cole’s beautiful voice has earned her the title “Princess of Hip-Hop Soul” from critics. She has received many honours and recognitions for her work, including an ASCAP Award and a Billboard Music Award.
