Indian Super League 2021-22 runners-up Kerala Blasters are planning to fly to Europe for their preseason, revealed their coach. Speaking to Asianet news, the Serbian manager revealed his plans for the upcoming season.
Reflection on their last season
Kerala Blasters ended the last season as the runners up of the Hero Indian Super League. After a brilliant start to the season, the yellow army lost their way midseason owing to difficulties faced by covid and injuries. But they found their way back in the crucial times which helped them finish in the top-4. Fighting back hard, they defeated shield winners Jamshedpur FC in the semifinals. A win over JFC sealed their place in the mega final, a stage which they missed since 2016. The tuskers showed great intent to bring home the trophy for the first time. But Sahil Tavora’s thunderbolt in the 89th minute levelled the scores. Laxmikant Kattimani of the Nizams pulled off excellent saves in the penalty shootout that followed. Kerala was denied yet another time in the final of ISL.
Preparations for the upcoming season
Immediately at the end of the season, the KBFC management extended Ivan Vukomanovic’s contract. The 44-year-old now has his contract running till 2025. The Tuskers have also extended the contract of their Croatian defender Leskovic till 2024. With the core of the team retained, Kerala Blasters have already made preparations for the upcoming season. Ivan, who guided the team to the final last season, revealed to Asianet news that he and his boys will be eyeing a preseason campaign in Europe in the coming months. There, they plan to play friendlies with top sides. The preseason camp is expected to start in late July. The Tuskers might also host friendlies in their home stadium in Kochi during the preseason. The whole camp is reportedly expected to be more than 2 months long.
