Egbetokun is the acting Inspector General of Police at the moment. Usman Baba, who was chosen by former President Muhammadu Buhari to serve as the Inspector General of Police in 2021, is replaced by him.
On March 3, 1990, Kayode Egbetokun began his career in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP (Course 16).
He has held positions in a variety of police force commands, formations, and divisions. From 1999 to 2005, he served as the governor of Lagos State’s chief security officer. He then served as Commander of the RRS Lagos State Command from 2005 to 2007. Additionally, he held the positions of CSP Admin at the Lagos State Command and O/C Anti-Fraud in the FCT Command in Abuja. He served as the area commander in Gusau, Zamfara State, and Osogbo, Osun State, during his tenure.
Egbetokun also took on leadership roles, serving as the Deputy Commandant of the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos State, and Commandant of the Police Training School (PTS) in Ikeja, Lagos State. Additionally, he held the position of commissioner of police for a number of divisions and commands, including the Servicom Force Headquarters in Abuja, the FHQ’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), the Kwara State Command, and the Admin Medical Falomo in Lagos State. He also served as the DIG of the Force Criminal Investigations Department at FHQ, Abuja, and was the AIG Zone 7 Headquarters.
