KTR, also known as Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao, is the working president of the TRS Party and the cabinet minister for the Telangana government’s IT E&C, MA&UD, and Industries & Commerce Departments. Professional Career
Rao entered politics in 2009 by running for the Sircilla Assembly seat in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Elections. He defeated K. K. Mahender Reddy, an independent candidate. Rao took the oath of office as a Telangana MLA and Cabinet Minister for Information Technology and Panchayat Raj on June 2, 2014. President and Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekhar Rao appointed him as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi Party’s (TRS) Executive Working President.
Between 2014 and 2018, KTR served in the cabinet in important ministerial positions. The party’s election campaign for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was given to K.T. Rama Rao. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairman of Biocon, and N R Narayana Murthy, among others, were among the business leaders Rao invited to mentor the state’s young entrepreneurs. In addition to the Panchayat Raj and Information Technology portfolios, he was given the subjects of Municipal Administration and Urban Development. Rao was allegedly involved in a significant real estate and land scam that surfaced in 2018, though this has not yet been proven.
Rao stated in March 2016 that the long-delayed Charminar Pedestrianisation Project (CPP) in Hyderabad’s Old City area would be finished by August and made accessible to the public. To provide tap water to about 8 million homes, the State launched the historic Water Grid project. This project leverages optical fibre in the same trench to build the largest broadband network in India. He started the E-Panchayat project as a step towards providing government services to rural citizens online.
During his visit to the US, Telangana’s IT and industries minister KT Rama Rao met with a number of businesses that promised to open offices and expand their operations there, creating over 42,000 jobs.
