After some time had passed, he received a promotion to the position of Chief General Manager ED at the Coal India Limited location in Raniganj, West Bengal.
In the coal mine located in Raniganj, West Bengal, on November 13, 1989, there was an unexpected influx of water, which resulted in the mine becoming flooded. The 161 miners who were in close proximity to the two lifts in the pit were instantly rescued, while the remaining 71 miners were further away and were unable to reach the lift because of the water. Senior Engineer Jasawant Gill was in charge of one of the groups that had gathered for rescue efforts. His heroic efforts had freed those who had been captive, and Coal India Ltd. declared November 16 to be “Rescue Day” as a means of commemorating the heroic actions of Gill.
