Vijayakumar is a police officer who previously worked for the Tamil Nadu Police Department as a Deputy Inspector General (DIG). On July 7, 2023, he shot himself in the head with his sidearm, thereby ending his own life. At around 6:45 in the morning, many accounts claim that he set out on a morning stroll to his camp office. Around 6:50 in the morning, he asked his PSO for the pistol, and then he fired and killed himself. According to the reports, Vijayakumar was suffering from a severe case of depression and has not been able to get a good night’s rest in many weeks. The first inquiry by the police concluded that it was a suicide, but the true reason for his deed is still a mystery.
The post-mortem examination was carried out at the General Hospital in Coimbatore. On January 6, 2023, Vijayakumar was sworn in as the Director General of Police for the city of Coimbatore. He belonged to the IPS’s 2009 recruit class. His previous positions include those of police superintendent in Kancheepuram and deputy commissioner of police in Chennai, both of which he held.
