Professional Career
David Weiss worked as a legal clerk for the Honourable Andrew D. Christie of the Supreme Court of Delaware. After that, from 1986 to 1989, he worked as an assistant United States Attorney in the district of Delaware, where he was responsible for prosecuting both violent and white-collar crimes. After leaving the office of the United States Attorney, he went on to serve as a commercial litigation associate and partner at the law firm of Duane Morris, as well as an executive at a financial services company. In 2007, he was promoted to the position of First Assistant United States Attorney at the office of the United States Attorney for the District of Delaware.
When then-President Donald Trump nominated Weiss for the permanent post of United States Attorney for the District of Delaware, Weiss was already serving in the interim capacity of that role. His nomination to be the United States Attorney was approved by the Senate by a voice vote on February 15, 2018, and he has been serving in that capacity since then. On February 22, 2018, he took his oath of office.
